Summary:
Mechanical Design Engineer designs, oversees prototype fabrication, and details mechanical system components and sub-assemblies across the ZEVx product portfolio.
With focus on manufacturability and compatibility across various product platforms, you have a vision for mechanical design and systems connectivity.
You will be required to develop design concepts via CAD models and part drawings while collaborating with other members of the Innovations team.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Design of products and mechanical support structures using Siemens NX CAD while working in conjunction with electrical and thermal engineering and manufacturing teammates to ensure that designs achieve the goal.
Design basic and complex machined and fabricated parts including manufacturing methods such as sheet metal, CNC, structural frame weldments, sheet metal brackets, etc.
Design of individual brackets or large assemblies all the way up to 100
mechanical piece parts/weldments.
Draft piece part, assembly, sub-assembly, and layout drawings required for fabrication while adhering to ASME, SAE and GD&T standards.
Flat pattern DXFs and STP files.
Create and maintain accurate BOMs (Bill of materials) of all projects.
Designs must consider costs of materials, availability for volume, delivery, and quality controls.
Establish and evaluate alternate designs as necessary to bring them to safety, performance, and efficiency standards.
Experience in a PLM environment to help manage drawing files, document control, and ensuring industry best practices are met.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
2-5 years' experience in a professional engineering position.
Strong cross-team communication skills are required.
GD&T application & working knowledge of ASME drafting standards.
Solid understanding of statics and dynamics is required.
Understanding of material properties (cold rolled steel, 6061 AL, stainless steel, etc) Working knowledge of mechanical fabrication and assembly processes (MIG, TIG, sheet metal bending, CNC machining).
Proficiency with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and Microsoft Office products.
Experience in simulation analysis (Ansys) is highly preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Required to stand approximately 50% of the time.
Frequently required to walk.

Frequently required work near moving mechanical parts.
Frequently work around fumes, or airborne particles.
The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
