Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking qualified candidates for an analytical hydrologist/GoldSim Specialist to join our mining team. The position is open for either Salt Lake City, Utah or Chandler, Arizona. The primary focus of this position is to serve U.S. and international-based mining clients with water resources and water management projects. The candidate will focus on performing analytical hydrological evaluations related to water balance calculations and unsaturated flow modeling for mining clients during operations and closure-related activities. The position requires expertise with developing and simulating physical hydrology processes (evapotranspiration, soil moisture, snowmelt, and energy balance principles). Experience with unsaturated flow modeling and long-term daily runoff generation principles are highly desired. Candidates with demonstrated experience in GoldSim are preferred. Candidates that have experience developing HYDRUS or other long-duration soil moisture models are also encouraged to apply. The candidate must demonstrate the ownership in the development and execution of modeling projects with limited oversite. This includes gathering and generating the data needed to drive water balance models, which may include inputs from other modeling software. The candidate is also required to communicate the results of these calculations clearly and to both engineers and scientists. Such inputs include climatological data (precipitation, temperature, wind speed, radiation, etc.), generation of daily flow values, and climate change responses to such parameters. For all the above related activities, the candidate will support the development of technical reports and for proposals for future work. This position interacts throughout the organization internally and externally with clients and members of business and professional organizations. Candidates demonstrating ability and interest in measuring and collecting field data are preferred.
